On the afternoon of today, Sunday, 5 Ramadan 1447 Hijri, corresponding to February 22, 2026, the activities of the First Ramadan Scientific Conference in Dentistry were launched. The conference is being held via video conferencing (online), under the patronage of Yemen Dental Association, Ibb Branch and Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences, with wide participation from dentists and consultants from inside and outside Yemen.
The conference opened with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the Yemeni national anthem. Then, Professor Dr. Faisal Abulhoum, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at Jiblah University Medical and Health Sciences, Head of Yemen Dental Association, Ibb Branch, Ibb governorate, delivered the opening speech. He welcomed the attendees and participants, emphasizing that the conference brings together a distinguished group of consultants and specialists from various fields of dentistry, providing a scientific platform for exchanging knowledge, expertise and strengthening professional commitment among members of the profession. He noted that the mission of dentists is not limited to clinical practice alone, but extends to scientific research, knowledge dissemination, and contributing to the development of the profession. He also pointed out that holding the conference during the month of Ramadan gives it a special moral significance, as it is a month of work, reflection, and renewal. He added that dentistry has witnessed rapid developments in recent years in scientific technologies, dental treatments, and research trends, which requires specialists to keep pace with these advancements through conferences and continuous scientific courses. The conference therefore serves as a platform that reflects the ability of the dental community to organize high-quality scientific events at a distinguished professional level.
For his part, Professor Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, rector of the university, affirmed that the conference represents a new and distinguished scientific experience that contributes to strengthening continuing medical education and supporting patterns of distance learning. He noted that the participation of dentists from both inside and outside the country reflects the expanding scope of scientific communication and exchange of expertise in the field of dentistry, which has seen rapid development in recent years. He explained that dentistry has become one of the most rapidly expanding medical specialties in terms of technologies, treatments, and research directions, which obliges medical professionals to continuously keep up with scientific developments. He also expressed his pride in the achievements of Yemeni dentists in various forums, and indicated that the conference is expected to attract between 4,000 and 5,000 participants and followers, reflecting the level of interest and awareness of the importance of such scientific events. In his closing remarks, he thanked everyone who contributed to the preparation and organization of the conference, as well as the participating speakers who will present summaries of their expertise and scientific experiences during the conference sessions.
The conference is being held as part of efforts to support scientific and professional activity in the field of dentistry and to promote a culture of continuing medical education, thereby contributing to performance development and the enhancement of the quality of healthcare services provided to the community. Then, Dr. Salah Al-Amrani, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, announced the start of the scientific sessions of the conference. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Mujeeb Ali Al-Saidi, Dean of the Center for Development and Quality Assurance.
