The cultural competitions for the academic year 1447 AH (2026/2027) were inaugurated on Monday afternoon, 6 Ramadan 1447 Hijri, corresponding to February 23, 2026, with the launch of the Holy Qur’an competition. The event was held in the presence of Prof. Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, rector of the university, along with a number of university leaders, academic and administrative staff members, and a large gathering of students.

In his speech during the inauguration, the rector of the university praised the organizational efforts made in preparing for the competitions, commending those in charge, particularly Dr. Mujeeb Marzah and Ms. Iman, the competition judges, as well as the vice rector for student affairs and the student activities administration. He affirmed that the university places great importance on cultural activities due to their significant role in building well-rounded student personalities and strengthening values and identity. He further noted that the Holy Qur’an competition represents a blessed beginning to the cultural program and reflects the university’s commitment to strengthening students’ connection to the Book of Allah and fostering a spirit of positive competition in the fields of goodness and knowledge.

The competition witnessed the participation of seven students competing in two categories: full memorization of the Holy Qur’an and memorization of fifteen Juz’ (chapters). The competition was conducted according to precise criteria in memorization, Tajweed, and quality of performance, in a distinguished spiritual and competitive atmosphere. For his part, Mr. Majed Al-Barousha, director of the student activities administration, explained that this year’s cultural competitions include a diverse range of events, such as public speaking and voice-over commentary, poetry writing, short story writing, drawing, Arabic calligraphy, and nasheed (Islamic chanting). These activities aim to discover and develop students’ talents in various literary and artistic fields. He added that the public speaking and voice-over competition will be held next Thursday, with the remaining competitions to follow according to the approved schedule, thereby enhancing cultural engagement within the university and providing students with opportunities to express their abilities and creativity in a motivating academic environment. These activities come within the framework of the university’s vision to support extracurricular activities as a fundamental pillar of the educational process and to prepare a generation equipped with knowledge, culture, and skills, capable of making effective contributions to serving the community.
