An expanded meeting was held this afternoon, Thursday, November 5, 2026, chaired by Professor Dr. Abdullah Al-Matari, Rector of the University and Director General of the Hospital, and Ms Fulla Al-Akhshar, Assistant of Director General for Quality Affairs, in the presence of department directors, heads of sections, and quality coordinators.

At the start of the meeting, the rector, who is also the hospital’s director general, commended the staff for their commitment to quality standards. He reminded everyone that working in the medical field is a sacred trust concerning human lives, requiring the utmost precision.

He also emphasized the importance of teamwork, directing close monitoring of performance across all departments and sections, and stressing that any shortcomings in quality assurance would not be tolerated, in order to guarantee the best possible medical care for patients.

For her part, Ms. Fulla Al-Akhshar presented the main topics of the meeting, which focused on the following points:

First: Performance evaluation for 2025 and course correction.

A comprehensive report was presented evaluating the performance of the Total Quality Management (TQM) department across various departments and sections, clearly identifying strengths and weaknesses.

The Assistant of the Director General emphasized the need to correct the deviations observed in the previous year so that 2026 would be a year of tangible and real improvement that patients could experience, moving beyond mere documentation.

Second: Quality Coordinators’ Tasks (Monitoring and Improvement).

The meeting emphasized the vital role of quality coordinators as a key link, and Ms. Fulla stressed that the coordinator’s role extends beyond secretarial tasks to include monitoring and field work, which encompasses:

* Monitoring adherence to policies and procedures, and promoting a culture of quality.

* Collecting and analyzing performance indicators and promptly reporting incidents to support patient safety.

* The importance of coordination and collaboration between quality coordinators and department heads, and working as a unified team.

* The necessity of documenting and signing verbal orders within 24 hours to ensure proper governance.

* Commitment to submitting accurate and reliable monthly reports, as coordinators’ performance will be subject to rigorous evaluation based on these commitments.

Third: Management of Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Medical Waste.

The hazardous and non-hazardous medical waste management plan for 2025 was discussed, with a thorough review of the sorting, weighing, transportation, and treatment processes.

The meeting reviewed a digital analysis linking waste weight to the number of incoming patients and days of sickness, emphasizing transparency in reporting and the accurate archiving of original copies.
