In order to promote a culture of institutional performance and improve the quality of health services, a specialized workshop was held today, Sunday, February 8, 2026, to discuss performance indicators for all hospital departments. The goal was to review the performance of the departments during the previous year, analyze the results, and determine the path of improvement for the coming period. The workshop targeted department managers, section heads, and quality coordinators, as they are key partners in building an effective performance system based on measurement, analysis, and decision-making.
The workshop was attended by Professor Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, the Rector and General Director of the Hospital, who stressed in his speech on the importance of establishing a culture of measurement and evaluation based on clear performance indicators, as it is a fundamental approach to improving work efficiency, raising the level of health services provided, and promoting the optimal use of available resources. He pointed out that the hospital leadership pays great attention to the application of quality systems and performance indicators according to a scientific methodology, which contributes to revealing and enhancing strengths, and addressing weaknesses systematically and sustainably. He stressed that the next stage will witness more focus on linking performance indicators to improvement and development plans in various departments, which will positively impact patient safety, satisfaction, and the quality of services.
Ms Fulla Al-Akhshar, Assistant General Director for Quality Affairs and the workshop trainer, addressed the importance of performance indicators, as they are a pivotal tool in determining the right path for departments, detecting deviations early and addressing them, comparing with previous performance to measure the level of improvement or decline, in addition to comparing with approved standards in a manner that is appropriate to the reality and capabilities of a healthy work environment. The trainer emphasized that any deviation in the indicators is not an end in itself, but rather a starting point for intervention, improvement, taking appropriate corrective measures, and utilizing the results to develop institutional performance. She also emphasized that performance indicators are not the responsibility of a single entity, but rather a collaborative system. This system requires awareness, active participation from all employees, and a genuine realization of its importance in improving service quality and sustaining development.
Furthermore, Mr. Mohammed Ghallab, the General Manager of Financial Affairs and the workshop facilitator, contributed an intervention discussing the significance of performance indicators as a key tool for measuring work efficiency and enhancing productivity. He noted that the correct utilization of these indicators helps in diagnosing deviations early, addressing them through scientific methods, and making data-driven decisions that contribute to raising financial, administrative, and technical performance efficiency.
The workshop included a review of the latest performance indicator updates and versions approved this year, as several indicators were updated to align with actual needs and current requirements. This workshop is part of the hospital’s strategic direction toward establishing indicator-based management, enhancing transparency, and achieving continuous improvement in performance and quality. This, in turn, contributes to elevating the level of healthcare services provided to citizens.
