Faculty Dean’s speech

Dr. Sumia Al-Mulaiki

Dean, Faculty of Midwifery

In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful

“And say, ‘Do [as you will], for Allah will see your deeds, and [so will] His Messenger and the believers.’”
Allah, the Almighty, has spoken the truth.

The field of midwifery represents one of the main pillars of the healthcare system, given its central role in promoting women’s health, ensuring safe motherhood and childhood, and contributing to improve health indicators at the community level. This specialization is based on an integrated scientific foundation that combines precise medical knowledge, advanced clinical skills, and the human and ethical values that form the essence of healthcare practice.

The midwifery program aims to prepare qualified healthcare professionals who possess both scientific and practical competence, and the ability to provide comprehensive and safe care—from health education, through pregnancy and childbirth follow-up, to postnatal care—according to the latest evidence-based practices and accredited professional standards. The program also seeks to develop critical thinking skills, clinical decision-making, and the ability to handle various cases efficiently and responsibly.

The academic structure of the program relies on modern curricula that keep pace with rapid developments in health sciences. It integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application through structured clinical training conducted in accredited healthcare settings, ensuring that students gain real-world experience and are well prepared for the labor market.

The program also places special emphasis on instilling professional values, foremost among them respect for patient dignity, protection of privacy, adherence to professional ethics, and teamwork within the healthcare system.

These principles enhance the quality of care provided and ensure the safety of beneficiaries.

The role of midwifery extends beyond clinical services to include raising health awareness, promoting preventive behaviors, and participating in community programs. It aims at improving health literacy and reducing risks associated with maternal and child health.

The specialization also contributes to support national efforts to develop the healthcare sector and achieve sustainability in its services. The program works to qualify graduates who are capable of practicing the profession with high efficiency across various healthcare institutions, whether in hospitals, health centers, or community care programs, while maintaining the ability to pursue continuous learning and professional development in line with modern requirements and scientific progress.

The program encourages the development of students’ research skills, enhancing their ability to analyze data and benefit from scientific studies to improve the quality of healthcare and provide innovative solutions to various health challenges through recognizing the importance of scientific research in advancing healthcare practices.

Midwifery embodies a noble professional mission centered on caring for human life at its most delicate stages, bearing the responsibility of preserving it through knowledge-based care, value-driven practice, and performance that reflects professional and ethical commitment. From this perspective, the program is committed to graduating qualified professionals who actively contribute to serving the community, meeting the needs of the healthcare sector, and supporting the advancement of health development in accordance with standards of quality and academic excellence.
