Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, Rector of Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences, the University Vice Rectorship for Student Affairs held a ceremony on Thursday, September 10, 2026, to honor the top-performing students from the university’s faculties and academic levels for the 2025–2026 academic year. The ceremony was organized as part of the University’s commitment to support high-achieving students, promote academic excellence, and foster a culture of creativity and healthy academic competition among students. The ceremony began with recitations from the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem, in the presence of university leaders, teaching staff, representatives of the local authority, students, and parents.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, Rector of the University, emphasized that honoring high-achieving students is one of the University’s most important academic traditions. He noted that this practice reflects the university’s firm belief that academic excellence constitutes a fundamental foundation for national progress and the development of societies. He further explained that the university is committed to transform excellence into an institutional culture by providing incentives and creating a competitive educational environment that motivates students to achieve the best possible results.
The rector explained that the Rector’s Award for High-Achieving Students is one of the university’s distinctive initiatives launched to support outstanding students. Under the initiative, the student ranked first in the Faculties of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Laboratory Medicine, or Midwifery is given the opportunity to enroll in the Faculty of Human Medicine and Surgery. The student ranked second is given the opportunity to enroll in the Faculty of Dentistry, while the student ranked third is given the opportunity to enroll in the Faculty of Pharmacy, in accordance with the approved academic regulations. In addition, the three top-ranked students at different faculties and academic levels receive financial incentives and tuition-fee exemptions. These measures are intended to promote a spirit of competition and motivate students to continue pursuing academic excellence and creativity.
He further noted that the university has not limited its incentives to those provided on campus. This year, it also sponsored the participation of a number of outstanding students in the Summer Student Exchange Program organized by the Arab Council for Training and Student Creativity. Through the program, students received academic and training opportunities at Arab universities in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Iraq. The university covered the full cost of round-trip travel tickets, reflecting its commitment to expose students to diverse Arab academic experiences, enhancing their scientific and practical skills, and preparing graduates capable of competing and excelling in their professional fields.
For his part, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hetar, Vice Rector of the University for Student Affairs, affirmed that the ceremony reflects the university’s commitment to celebrate academic excellence and establishing a culture of achievement as one of the fundamental pillars of human development and future-building. He explained that the university regards its students as the central focus of the educational process and continuously works to provide a stimulating academic environment that enables them to develop their creativity and innovation. He called on students to continue their journey of hard work and dedication and to maintain the high academic standards they have achieved.
Dr. Al-Hetar also pointed out that the Rector’s Award for Encouraging Creative and Outstanding Students was introduced as part of the university’s commitment to support high achievers. The total value of the financial awards and tuition-fee exemptions provided under the initiative amounted to approximately 15 million Yemeni Riyals. He added that the university would continue to support every hardworking student and firmly believes that genuine investment begins with investment in people. He emphasized that the university leadership is committed to further develop its academic programs, enhance the quality of education, and provide everything necessary to enable students to achieve their academic and professional aspirations.
In a further motivational gesture, the university honored two students in recognition of their consistent commitment to paying their tuition fees on time without delay. The recognition was intended to appreciate their compliance with university regulations and policies and to encourage other students to embrace a culture of discipline and responsibility alongside academic excellence.
Student Rehab Al-Sharaei delivered a speech on behalf of the honored students, expressing her profound gratitude and appreciation to the university leadership and teaching staff for the academic and educational support they had provided, which contributed to the students’ success. She emphasized that the honor represented an important motivation to continue striving for excellence and serving society through knowledge and education.
Student Haneen Sameer also delivered a speech on behalf of the top-performing students. She emphasized that academic excellence was not the result of coincidence, but rather the outcome of years of perseverance, hard work, and dedication. She noted that the university had provided a stimulating educational environment and distinguished academic staff, both of which had contributed to developing students’ academic and professional competencies. She expressed her pride, and that of her fellow students, in receiving the honor, describing it as a badge of pride for every hardworking and successful student.
For his part, Dr. Abdulghani Muayzib, Advisor to the University Rector, explained that universities are not measured solely by the number of their buildings or academic programs, but rather by the creative minds and qualified professionals they produce. He stressed that honoring outstanding students sends a clear message that the university places academic excellence among its highest priorities and seeks to prepare a generation equipped with knowledge, values, and the capacity to contribute effectively to the development of society.
Mr. Abu Zaid Al-Shaje, General Director of Jiblah District, praised the academic and scientific development achieved by Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences in recent years. He affirmed that the university had become one of the leading educational institutions in preparing qualified medical and health professionals. He also commended the university’s role in serving the local community and affirmed the continued support of the local authority, including efforts to overcome challenges facing the university and enable it to continue fulfilling its educational and humanitarian mission.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, the University Secretary-General read out the decision to award the Jiblah University Shield to Mr. Abu Zaid Al-Shaje, General Director of Jiblah District, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in supporting the university, his continued cooperation in overcoming challenges facing it, and his contribution to the successful implementation of numerous activities and programs organized by the University.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the top-performing students from the various faclties and academic levels were honored. The students received certificates of appreciation and awards allocated to them under the Rector’s Award for High-Achieving Students. The awards included financial incentives, tuition-fee exemptions, and other prizes.
The ceremony concluded in a celebratory atmosphere that reflected the university’s strong commitment to recognize academic excellence and motivating its students to continue their journey of achievement, success, and service to society.
