Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, Rector of Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences, the university, in cooperation with the Cardiac Center at Al-Thawra General Hospital Authority in Sana’a, organized a specialized scientific symposium on cardiovascular diseases and lipid disorders on Thursday, September 24, 2026. The symposium brought together a distinguished group of consultants, academics, physicians, and specialists from various universities and healthcare institutions, as part of the university’s efforts to promote continuing medical education and keep pace with the latest scientific developments in specialized medical fields.
The symposium served as the culmination of a two-day scientific program, preceded by three specialized training workshops covering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Electrocardiography (ECG), and Advanced Echocardiography. The workshops aimed to develop the practical skills of physicians and healthcare practitioners and enhance their competencies in diagnosing and treating cardiac conditions in accordance with the latest medical practices.
The symposium opened with recitations from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the national anthem. Professor Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, President of the University, then delivered a welcoming address in which he expressed his pride in organizing the symposium in partnership with the Cardiac Center at Al-Thawra General Hospital Authority in Sana’a. He also commended the participation of distinguished consultants and academics from various governorates.
Dr. Al-Matari emphasized that the university continues to strengthen its role as a specialized academic institution committed to building effective scientific partnerships and organizing high-quality academic events that contribute to developing medical competencies, linking academic education with clinical practice, and ultimately improving the quality of healthcare services.
He further affirmed that Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences attaches great importance to continuing medical education and works to host scientific symposiums, conferences, and workshops that keep pace with developments in medical sciences. Such activities, he noted, enhance the capabilities of physicians and healthcare practitioners and support the university’s mission in education, scientific research, and community service.
The opening session was attended by a large number of academics and medical specialists, led by Professor Dr. Ahmed Lotf Al-Mutarreb, Chair of the Symposium and Head of the Department of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine, Sana’a University; Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Dhulai, Rector of Amran University; Professor Ahmed Ali Al-Hazmi, Vice Rector of Jiblah University for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies; Dr. Mohammed Al-Hetar, Vice Rector of the University for Student Affairs; Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Kabsi, Coordinator of the Yemeni Fellowship in Cardiology; Professor Dr. Taha Al-Maimouni, Coordinator of the Yemeni Fellowship in Cardiology; Professor Dr. Noor Al-Din Al-Jaber, Scientific Coordinator of the Yemeni Fellowship in Cardiology; Dr. Abdulghani Ghabasha, Chairman of Al-Thawra General Hospital Authority in Ibb Governorate; Dr. Ashraf Al-Mutawakkil, Deputy Governor for Health Affairs; in addition to a number of deans, teaching staff members, consultants, physicians, and cardiology specialists.
Following the opening session, the scientific program began with 12 lectures delivered across two sessions. A distinguished group of consultants and specialists presented scientific lectures addressing the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and lipid disorders, cardiovascular risk factors and preventive strategies, as well as the latest scientific recommendations related to diagnosis and treatment. The presentations aimed to contribute to the advancement of medical practice and the improvement of healthcare quality. The scientific sessions also featured rich discussions and contributions from participants, addressing a number of clinical cases and challenges encountered by physicians in their daily practice. These discussions facilitated the exchange of expertise and enriched professional knowledge, further enhancing the scientific value of the symposium and reinforcing its objectives in supporting continuing medical education.
At the conclusion of the symposium, the university administration honored the speakers, session chairs, members of the scientific and organizing committees, as well as the institutions and individuals who contributed to the preparation and organization of the event, in recognition of their scientific and organizational efforts and their contributions to the success of the symposium. The symposium forms part of Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences’ efforts to expand its scientific partnerships with universities and healthcare institutions, strengthen continuing medical education programs, and establish specialized scientific platforms for exchanging expertise and keeping pace with the latest developments in medicine. These efforts contribute to enhancing the professional performance of healthcare professionals and improving the quality of medical services provided to the community.
