Faculty of Medicine at Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences launched the graduation research defenses for the first batch of students in the Department of General Medicine and Surgery on Thursday, 23 July 2026. The event was held under the patronage of Professor Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, Rector of the University, as part of the requirements for awarding the MBBS. The opening session was attended by the dean of the faculty, faculty members, and the research defense committees.
At the beginning of the event, Professor Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, Rector of the University, emphasized that the university places great importance on scientific research as one of the fundamental pillars in the preparation of future physicians, alongside academic education and clinical training. He noted that graduation research projects provide students with an opportunity to strengthen their research skills and connect academic knowledge with priority healthcare issues. Professor Al-Matari added that launching the graduation research defenses for the first batch of the Faculty of Medicine marks a significant academic milestone in the university’s journey and reflects the maturity achieved by its medical programs. He stressed the university’s commitment to ensuring that graduation projects possess scientific and research value that contributes to serving both the community and the healthcare sector.
For his part, Dr. Baheej Al-Moreesy, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, explained that the submitted research projects addressed important health-related topics using modern scientific methodologies and demonstrated the research competencies students had developed throughout their years of study. He also noted that the faculty had formed defense committees comprising distinguished faculty members and specialists to ensure that the research was evaluated according to rigorous academic standards.
On the first day of the defenses, three research projects were presented and discussed. The first research project, supervised by Dr. Afaf Al-Shareef, was entitled “Knowledge, Attitudes, and Readiness Toward Early Detection of Cervical Cancer Using the Pap Smear Test Among Female Students at Jiblah University: A Cross-Sectional Study.” The discussion committee included Dr. Sadeq Al-Mohni and Dr. Sumaya Al-Mulaiki.
The second group presented a study entitled “Identification of Molecular Subtypes of Breast Cancer at the National Cancer Control Foundation in Ibb Governorate: A Retrospective Study,” supervised by Dr. Baheej Al-Moreesy. The research was evaluated by Dr. Baleegh Al-Taweel, Dr. Mohammed Jaber, and Dr. Fouad Al-Yousifi.
The third group defended a research project entitled “The Accuracy of Preoperative Ultrasound Examination in the Diagnosis of Acute Surgical Conditions,” supervised by Dr. Noaman Al-Mashraqi. The discussion committee consisted of Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Sumairi and Dr. Baheej Al-Moreesy.
The discussion sessions witnessed active scientific engagement, with committee members providing constructive comments and recommendations aimed at enhancing the quality of the research. The committees commended the students’ academic performance and praised their selection of research topics addressing health issues of considerable scientific and societal importance. The graduation research defenses will continue over the coming days according to the schedule prepared by the Faculty of Medicine, as part of fulfilling the academic requirements for the first batch of students before they begin their internship year. This milestone marks the imminent graduation of the first class of physicians from Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences and their contribution to serving the healthcare sector and the wider community.
