In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The field of anesthesiology, resuscitation, and intensive care is the most comprehensive and knowledgeable specialty in medical and health sciences, encompassing all aspects of the physiological and pathological functioning of the human body. This is because the anesthesiologist is responsible for managing and treating various medical conditions, whether related to internal medicine in all its branches, surgery in all its branches, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, or all related laboratory work, radiology, procedures, and clinical tests. This applies to the work of the anesthesiologist in operating rooms and their annexes, as well as in intensive care units and their subspecialties.
This specialty is considered relatively new compared to internal medicine and general surgery, benefi from technological advancements and keeping pace with modern advancements through the use of advanced medical equipment and other resources. Most Arab and other societies still suffer from a shortage of qualified personnel in this specialty for numerous reasons that cannot be elaborated upon here. Based on the foregoing, and with a keen vision and a conscious awareness of the historical responsibility towards society and the future of the nation, the innovative Professor Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al-Matari, in his capacity as Rector of Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences and General Director of Jibla University Hospital, established a specialized faculty to train competent medical personnel responsible for the specialty of anesthesiology and intensive care. This faculty is not currently offered in any other Yemeni universities.
This constitutes a scientific and professional precedent that transcends the borders of the Republic of Yemen and aligns with the scientific advancements in the most developed countries. This reaffirms the timeless truth that civilization is built by the minds of scientists and the will of benevolent individuals.
The program on which the qualification of anesthesiologist and intensive care physician at Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences is based is an integrated program and matches the programs and standards applied in international universities, as we mentioned earlier; The program offers students a comprehensive five-year course of general medicine, covering the same core theoretical and clinical content. Following this, they undergo an intensive three-semester program in anesthesiology and intensive care, building upon the research and practical experience they began in their final years of undergraduate studies. This entire program is delivered with the wisdom and expertise of a highly qualified team of professors and instructors who stay abreast of the latest advancements in education and scientific research. Upon graduation, students receive two degrees: one in general medicine and one in anesthesiology and intensive care. The university hospital, with its numerous medical departments and surgical suites where most surgical procedures at various levels are performed, ensures excellent training and qualification for graduates. The intensive care unit, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, experienced staff, and supervising professors, is another key component. All of this, under the wise and supportive leadership of the University Rector, Professor Dr. Abdullah Al-Matari, who has made Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences a professional and academic hub, providing an ideal environment for training anesthesiologists and intensive care physicians. We confidently hand over the banner of the future to those to whom we entrust our lives and the lives of our children and grandchildren, because of their high-level scientific and professional qualifications that rival many of their colleagues in the world’s finest universities.
My testimony might be considered biased because of my students in the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine program at Jiblah University, but it is the truth I am certain of based on my daily observations, participation in the teaching process, and my position overseeing the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care program at Jiblah University for Medical and Health Sciences.
I hope this pioneering initiative at our university continues to succeed, that we live up to the expectations of our people, the Yemeni and Arab communities, and that we serve as a positive example to be emulated in fulfilling our historical and humanitarian role.
May God grant us success.
